Holden’s Seven Saws Cuts Deep

I recently was able to return home to mourn and attend the funeral of my late grandmother and in the “what do we do now” moments following the services, my family and I decided to spend the rest of the afternoon at Seven Saw’s bigger and beautiful new location in Holden, Massachusetts. This was the best possible decision to add a silver lining to a gray day and give us some memories that we will hold dear.

Seven Saws added a second location to compliment their Holden Center taproom and it is a beauty. Cozied up in the Holden Industrial Park, Seven Saws has a back lot location that affords patrons plenty of space in diverse settings within and outside of the brewhouse. The backyard is spacious and surrounded by woods, so you would never know that you are relaxing just off the main drag in Holden. There is plenty of room for playing cornhole or just letting the kids run, and run, and run around. The brewhouse offers a couple varying settings that will surely accommodate crowds well once the weather becomes a bit more inhospitable.

Seven Saw’s moto is Drink Well, Do Good and they do their part in giving their customers every opportunity to live up to those words. I was able to sample a good number of brews during my visit and I have to say that their Mountaineer Harvest, a pumpkin/yam brew with all the right spices, is a beer worth making a road trip for. This seasonal brew seemed to be a favorite of the many folks in the brew yard on this beautiful fall New England day. It was perfection, even without a sugared rim.

Seven Saw’s Buzzsaw, a lavender and honey blonde ale, somehow gives all of the fragrance and aroma that you would want from a beer featuring lavender but none of the potpourri taste that you may fear when ordering. This brew was super-refreshing and an absolute treat.

For those who like the venture into the sour side of brewing, Seven Saw’s Smoothie Bar is berry good. See what I did there? This sour doesn’t lose flavor in favor of pucker. It is very drinkable in both draft and can form.

I was there right before they unveiled For Peaches Sake, their collaboration with Wormtown Brewery, and now I’m thinking that I need to take another trip home to make sure I don’t miss out. You shouldn’t either. Make the trip to Holden, Massachusetts and give this great new brewery a try. You won’t be disappointed.
