Abigail Vail’s Wandering Soul Hits Home

Plymouth, MA based singer/songwriter Abigail Vail has become a favorite all across South Eastern Massachusetts for her incredibly personal and insightful lyrics, engaging tunes, and delightfully comforting voice.

Fans of Vail’s have long had to enjoy her music exclusively in person or on live local radio performances because Vail, who is a prolific song writer, had yet to record and release her debut album. Some of Vail’s fans, like myself, even went to the lengths of ripping audio off of YouTube videos in order to be able to listen to her songs on their own time.

Well, this past May Vail was able to release her debut album Wandering Soul and the wait was worth it. The album features ten tracks and is a mix of tracks that Vail’s supporters had long hoped she would record and also some new tunes that demonstrate how Abigail’s music continues to evolve as she hits major life milestones.

This album is chalk full of great songs but if you are just getting familiar with Abigail Vail’s music, then you should start with the third track - Black and White. This energetic tune encapsulates Vail’s drive to make it on her own terms and to not be put into the confines of somebody else’s box. Her creative lyricism is on full display is she rails against being simplified and limited to black and white terms. This wildflower of a track hits it’s mark squarely in tone and message.

Vail also pays tribute to her personal experiences through beautifully insightful tracks like Hopeless Romantics, Sundown, and What He’s Not Saying to Me. Her ability to speak to her own life while also making her stories so relatable that you can overlay the song over your own lenses. She has a very sincere gift and is able to package it within these beautiful songs.

Wandering Soul was recorded and produced by 37’ Productions in Rockland, MA. Vail worked closely with Sean McLaughlin and his time to create and album to feels equally parts accessible and highly professionally produced, which is a tough balance to strike.

Abigail Vail is on a short hiatus after welcoming her first child into the world this fall. She will inevitably get back to performing in venues, restaurants and breweries throughout the South Shore but until then you can enjoy Wandering Soul everywhere you can stream music online.

Abigail Vail is nominated for the New England Music Award’s Song Writer of the Year and Female Performer of the Year, so go online and show some support to Abigail and other talented musicians by voting.
